For Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, there is a neat Android client available on Google Play.

The client Analytix from EMS is available as Version 1 Beta and is available for free. It supports a wide range of features, including views, dynamic filters, charting and exception highlighting.

According to ZDNet, Microsoft is planning to release mobile BI clients for Android, Windows Phone, and iPhone as well.

  1. Hi there, would you perhaps know how to connect to the OLAP Server it says URL but would I be able to put in the IP Address?

Or would I have to configure the OLAP Server for HTTP Access?

    Thanks
    Gilbert

      • Hi there I will give that a try now 🙂

What Username and password must I use?

I would also like to try this in my own environment, that is why the question on how to connect to my local OLAP Server.

        Thanks
        Gilbert

        • Hi Gilbert,

          from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492140.aspx

When MSMDPUMP connects to Analysis Services, it does so under a Windows user identity. This account will either be the Anonymous account if you configured the virtual directory for anonymous connections, or a Windows user account. The account must have the appropriate data access rights on the Analysis Services server and database.

Regarding your localhost configuration: not sure if the app can connect via wifi (which would be required to access your local IP). Please let me know.

          Greetings,

          Michael

          • Ok perfect thanks for clarifying this. I have not done this before but I am sure I can get it working to connect to my local server.

Once I have done that and I can connect I will update you with how it works. Thanks for the replies so far.

        • Hi Gilbert,

did you had a chance to try out a Wifi connection to your local cube? Did it work?

          Thanks,

          Michael

          • Hi there,

I am still waiting for my security department to allow me access via the Wifi. As soon as I can test it I will let you know

            Thanks
            Gilbert

          • Hey, I have been struggling with our Security Department to allow me access via Wi-Fi to our secure servers. I am still trying and as soon as I can get it working I will let you know.

            Thanks
            Gilbert

      • Did it work with Wifi?

I have the problem that I only have SSAS at work and the customer is restricting Wifi access.

        So I can’t try out.

        Thanks,

        Michael

          • Hi Yohan,

have you checked out Cubeware? It’s an OLAP frontend for SQL Server and other OLAP sources. they also have a Android and iPhone app.

            Cheers,

            Michael

          • Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply. I guess that’s an app , but what i want is to build an android app which support OLAP data sources and build a reporting/charting application. Can you advise ?

            Regards,
            Yohan

          • Hi Yohan,

Android is based on (a special version of) Java. I’m not sure if this will work on Android, but you should check out http://www.olap4j.org/

Please let me know if you’re having success with this or not. I’m definitively interested!

            Best,

            Mike
